I went to the woods...

...and what did I find?
Little Sylvie's mushrooms all in a line.

They stuck out their heads, they were timid at first.

They stared at me, wondering?
What could possibly be worse?

They came close together, staring right in my eyes,

Then posed for their pictures,

like little wise guys.

Enjoy!

Fasten off, leaving a 16 inch tail. (You will use this tail to sew the cap on.)

~ You will need a circle of lightweight cardboard to place inside the bottom of the stem. This will keep the mushroom from falling over.  Cut a 3”x 3” square from the box and set the mushroom stem on top. With a pencil, LIGHTLY trace around the stem and cut INSIDE the line. Place the cardboard down inside the stem and proceed with stuffing the stem firmly.

Rnd 20: * sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc; rep from * around – 36 sts.
Slip st in next sc. Fasten off leaving a long tail. Stuff firmly.

Crochet Polka-Dots:

SMALL (make 4)
With C, ch 2.
Work 6 sc in first ch.
Slip st in next sc. Fasten off leaving a long tail.

LARGE (make 3)
With D, ch 2.
Rnd 1: Work 6 sc in first ch.
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each st around - 12 sts.
Slip st in next sc. Fasten off leaving a long tail.

Finishing:
1. Place eyes on stem just under stem top. Add cheeks by gluing felt on with craft glue or use blush. Embroider mouth with black size 10 crochet thread if desired. Embroider eyelashes if desired. (It is much easier to embroider when cap is not sewed on.

2. Sew mushroom cap to stem using stem long tail. (see pictures below)

3. Do NOT stuff the empty space between the cap and stem. This space between the cap and stem should NOT be filled with stuffing. This space allows the stem to go up into the cap a little making the typical mushroom cap hangover.

4. Sew large and small polka-dots to cap if desired or glue on felt spots.
