What a tradition!

Each year my Ripley family creates Christmas ornaments for each family unit. That means that each Christmas our family collection grows by 5 glorious Christmas creations!

I have grown to love this tradition. I plan throughout the year by clipping ideas from magazines and advertisements. Then, by October I choose, gather supplies, and begin. I have to start early because the holidays are busy even though I try not to have them be. There's always something going on or something to go see or do!

I've even taken it a step further...crazy me!

I create a whole new ornament for my side of the family too! That's 7 for me and 5 for Ripley's! Whew!
But I TOTALLY love it! I've been working with felt the last few years and it is by far my favorite. I'll try some crochet now and again, but nothing says Christmas ornament like felt! It gets so "vintage-y" after a few years. I've repaired many of ours just because they are my kids' favorites.

I'll try to remember this Christmas to take some pictures of our past contributions and post them here.
And, I'll be sure to post the finished product come Christmas. For now, it's just a sneak peek. Can't give away the secret yet.

Don't open 'til Christmas!

Now, I need to get back to my sewing.

  1. What a lovely tradition you have made for your children! I know they will cherish these memories all their lives.

I, too am trying to keep Christmas simple and family and Christ-focused (the important things!) but am struggling as well. Stuff keeps coming up!
